As I share my blog with more of my friends, I realize that what I seek to present through this blog needs to be discussed. This Holistic Life is my attempt to share a subject in which I am deeply passionate about, holistic wellness, with the rest of the world.
First of all, I love to write. But, in my new role as a stay at home mom, the way that I write and the depth of my writing has changed drastically. My little boy actually fell asleep early last night, which gave me the chance to clean up a bit and sit down at my computer fall a while. I used to research and write lengthy stories, sharing my opinion about whatever topic came to mind. It took some time, and trial and error, to realize that I can’t do that anymore. I am learning to present information in a more concise, straight to the point sort of way, as I usually only write during naptime.
This is the first part of the journey toward beginning This Holistic Life. I needed to write. I needed to connect. I needed to exhale. And this was the way that I needed to do it.
Secondly, holistic wellness is my passion. It is who I am; as a woman, a nurse, and mother. I view people and the world holistically and I desire to share all that I know with anyone who will listen.
There are varying degrees of holistic wellness. My interpretation of holistic wellness does not involve a completely natural or organic lifestyle; it’s about knowing who you are, what works for you, and having an awareness and confidence that allows you to make wise, intentional choices about your health and well-being.
This is why I am able to write this blog and why I was able to have a holistic pregnancy and labor. For me, writing is therapeutic and I learn while I share information with others. It’s definitely a challenge, but it keeps me balanced. I’ll discuss my pregnancy and labor a bit later.
Holistic wellness takes a mind, body, spirit approach to living and you incorporate this approach into every aspect of your life. We’ll all be in different stages of holistic living because what makes us well continuously changes. Connecting and sharing information is a part of my wellness journey. With the information that I provide, I hope to encourage and empower others while they are on their journey.
Lastly, this blog is written for moms and moms-to-be because I desire to connect with women who share in the experiences that have significantly impacted my life- pregnancy and motherhood. Combining my passion and purpose is simply a blessing, and I enjoy doing it.
You see, I had a holistic pregnancy, labor and delivery because I had done my research and understood what was right and best for me and my baby. But please understand that holistic does not exclude the inclusion of medicine during your labor and delivery. My holistic pregnancy was natural, but yours does not have to be.
As a nurse and student of birth stories, I’ve found that many women do not have the information that they need to have the experience that they desire. This Holistic Life offers information about the natural approach to pregnancy and motherhood because I believe it needs to be given more time in the spotlight. It makes me cringe to think that there are times when medicine is presented as the first and only option for labor and delivery, that the U.S. elective cesarean birth rate is off the charts, and that some women are not made to feel secure, confident and capable of having a natural labor and delivery.
I’ve been blessed to witness many lives enter this world. I want to ensure that women who are pregnant and mothering children are aware of the holistic approach to life (mind, body, spirit). I also want women to understand how vital it is to take care of yourself in order to be the best and live well. The tools provided at This Holistic Life are a complement to your current lifestyle, health, and wellness practices. I hope that they will be used throughout a woman’s pregnancy and carry over into motherhood.
I’ve never been the one to do what is common or let a no stop me. I listen to my spirit and follow my heart until I know I’m in the right place doing the right thing. I encourage you to do the same. This is what I call Holistic Wisdom. Take care of every aspect of your being with the utmost respect. Recognize who you are and that you are marvelously made. Surround yourself with those who love, honor, and value the same life principles that you do. And then cherish the life you’ve been given and the life you’re blessed to produce.
I’m honored, and humbled, to live This Holistic Life and I thank you for being a part of my journey.
